Since I am the catalyst in my sister circles, I have to hold on to many secrets. In high school, there was a running joke that my middle name was Secrets. Because I am a natural relationship builder and protector, I still work hard at providing a safe space for people. Many people don’t have a person or group they can truly trust, and I have always valued being that for the ones I love.
Honestly, I’m baffled at individuals who choose to circulate the private information of others! What purpose does it serve to do so? What are you gaining by sharing someone else’s privacy? I don’t think people realize the beauty in keeping things close to the vest. It actually creates a bond that is so deep and everlasting. When you sign up for friendship or sisterhood, there is a certain responsibility to uphold. Yes, we know the basics, love, support, and the good ole, be there in my time of need, but being or becoming a safe space is top tier!
It’s so bonding: sitting across from your chosen sister and knowing that she is holding the deepest parts of your life, and you don’t have a care in the world simply because you know it is safe with her! It’s so gratifying and it solidifies that this sisterhood is true! It almost feels like a personal universe was created just for the two of you! Imagine waking up daily knowing that if there’s no one else in the world to trust, that individual can trust you! HOW AMAZING!
What people should remember about keeping secrets is there doesn’t have to be a negative connotation attached. Even if one opines that the secret isn’t the best-case scenario, we must always remember that it is not about judgment and more importantly it is not our secret. The only priority will always be creating a safe space!
